Carl Rogers (1902-1987) was an American psychologist and a founding figure of humanistic psychology, best known for pioneering the person-centered approach to therapy, education, and organizational life. Central to his theory are unconditional positive regard, congruence, empathic understanding, and an innate actualizing tendency. He served as APA president in 1947 and surveys have ranked him among the most eminent psychologists of the 20th century.
