Abraham Maslow (1908-1970) was an American humanistic psychologist who shifted the field's focus from pathology toward positive human potential. His hierarchy of needs framework became one of the most widely recognized in psychology, though the now-iconic pyramid diagram was not created by Maslow himself. With Rogers, he is considered a co-founder of humanistic psychology's third force, reacting against psychoanalysis and behaviorism.
